Make A Rising 2.0 First Show

After a long long time of slow, grinding rehearsals – Make A Rising (Los Angeles edition) played our first show in over 10 years. We played at our house in Echo Park to a bunch of friends who don’t really know us through our music. Three of us are original members (Justin, Jesse and John). The rest are all new friends who agreed to play with us (not including Alex who also moved from Philly, who we’ve known for ages).

Honus from Man Man opened up for us which was cool, since we came up in the same weird music scene. As usual for Make A Rising, the performance was a little rough around the edges! But it was a good start to us feeling like a band again. We plan on playing more shows in the Los Angeles region soon!

Big Update

Hello to any and all who even look at websites anymore. Also to any and all who keep their antennae out for obscure indie prog bands that have been largely inactive for 10 years.

The major update is that we have been rehearsing at Justin’s house in Los Angeles every week for about a year or more. We are very close to having a set of music to play live. We have 9 members. We also have an Instagram. This will be the best way to know when we’ll have new stuff happening.

Thanks for waiting. This song took us 5 years to finish. We never played it live. I started writing it when I moved to Los Angeles, and kept tweaking it until the last minute. It’s basically a journal of my various emotional states since relocating. Hope you dig this 9 1/2 minute beast.

This is from a track called “Growing” that we’ll be mixing at the end of August. It features an Oberheim DX drum machine that became an interesting necessity, due to our drummer living on the opposite coast.

I literally just finished recording a new song for Make A Rising. The song is called “growing”. I’ve been working on it for what seems like 2 years. There are 3 other songs that will be completed and mixed by the end of August.

Mixing in July

We’ll be mixing at least one new track in July. As well as mixing the soundtrack we’re composing for our Cartoon Hangover pilot. It’s called Manly. It will air on July 31st. You can check out the tumblr here.

Again sorry for the delay. We are very close to having a bunch of new songs coming down the pipeline. It’s just a matter of finding the time.
